Pics and videos from 2009 season opener

Anyone following this site knows my opinion on the tailgate changes and absolutely nothing changed that on Saturday. If anything I know am more upset because the continued lack of communication on what we can or can’t do and the fact that those in non-donor lots had much less obstacles to overcome. Also none of the stated goals from UCF were seemingly achieved considering it appears they spent more on pre-noon security than ever before and I didn’t see any less rowdy behavior than usual. Hopefully some common sense is used and adjustments are made quickly to ease donor concerns and fix actual issues.

In the meantime here are some photos and videos I captured on Memory Mall and in the game.

UCF: “most of them completely agree with the policy”

Fox 35 interviewed me today for a piece about the tailgate controversy. My part was pretty small, but I’m posting this as I felt there was something pretty interesting in the story. UCF spokesman Grant Heston was quoted in the story as saying this:

“We have passionate fans and I think MOST of them COMPLETELY agree with the policy and the noon start time for this game”

I concede there are some fans that don’t care about this issue, but I haven’t run into any that agree with this policy and are happy about it. I’m curious where the UCF Administration find these fans? This is the second bizarre statement from a UCF official, the first was back on August 17th during a tailgate meeting where Admiral Harms stated that he had many fans tell him that they were “scared” to be on Memory Mall. I don’t want to say UCF is lying, but I’d love to find out where these fans are they like to reference.

Tailgate Petition to UCF Game Day Committee

If you are unhappy with the new rules imposed by the UCF Game Day Committee and how it was implemented after season ticket payments and donations were due then please sign the petition below. Also please send it to friends, post it on facebook, etc. We need to let the UCF administration know this is unacceptable.

Keep in mind there is now proof that UCFAA knew about these pending changes before they sent out renewal notices, but they failed to inform us about it until this summer when money was already collected. In addition it appears that the UCFAA actually preferred a more strict policy of only 5 hours of tailgating, which would have meant tailgating not starting until 2:30pm this Saturday. Time to stand up and say no more!

Tailgate Public Records Request Analysis

UCF fans have put in requests for the UCF Game Day Committee meeting notes and have received some records back. You can download these records by clicking here. It’s mostly PowerPoint presentations sprinkled with some emails and attachments. I haven’t gotten a chance to read every single document, but I would recommend taking a look at 10-2-08 presentation PDF. Let me show you an exert that has caught my eye as well as many other fans so far. [Read more →]

Memory Mall Tailgate Lines

As many of you who tailgate in Memory Mall are aware last year after the USF game in a knee-jerk reaction the UCF Administration began painting 10×10 white lines in the grass on Memory Mall to tell tailgaters where they can place their tents. The end result is something like this: [Read more →]

Video to get you pumped about football season

Decide to take a break from the tailgate fiasco, although I’m hardly done with that! But it’s getting exciting as the season is getting close…less than two weeks away now!

Check out this video out that was made my a fan who goes by Longshot3. It’ll get you pumped!

Good Knight

Get your “I Survived Memory Mall Shirts”

In case you missed it, we found out from Retired Admiral Al Harms during the Game Day meeting on Monday that fans have told him they were “scared” of the Memory Mall before they put down white lines down to restrict our tents and grills. I personally haven’t run into any of these so called “scared” fans, but hey they must exist right. So Auggie from ucfvideos.com has designed this great t-shirt for those that aren’t scared of Memory Mall and have somehow managed to survive it!

Check out the images below. The shirt is in Vegas Gold and the cost is $19.95 right now, but it will be less if he can get enough orders for bulk. He is not making a single penny on this, just wants to spread the message and poke some fun at this situation. I’ll be getting one myself. Please let a comment or contact me via the Contact button if you are interested in purchasing one yourself or have any questions.

OS article on tailgate meeting and my review

Iliana from the Orlando Sentinel was present for the community meeting to discuss UCF game day operations and wrote this article. Yours truly is quoted a few times in the article.

I think UCF has a uphill battle in front of them and has some serious work to do if they want to throw water on the fire. There may have only been 25 or so angry fans there, but a) this meeting wasn’t specifically for fans to discuss these changes it was for local residents b) this wasn’t really published or advertised. I think the views given in the meeting are representative of a large chunk of our fan base so I hope they are given some serious thought. Here’s my personal review of the meeting and what I think UCF should now do:

Voice your tailgate concerns at UCF on Aug 17th

UCF is holding a game day meeting for local residents to discuss updates to gameday policies, including the change in kickoff time. Sounds like a perfect opportunity to for those not happy with the changes to voice their displeasure! The meeting is on Monday Aug 17th from 6:30 - 8pm at room 117 of the teaching academy on the campus of UCF. You can park for free in Garage A. It sounds like there will be many from the UCF Rivals site to show their opposition and I should be there too so come join us!

Official Release from UCF

Also I would also encourage everyone to leave a comment on the recent Orlando Sentinel blog discussion this situation and whether UCF fans are still upset about the tailgating change.
