If you are a UCF fan then you absolutely must check out a new fan site at ucfvideos.com. This site was created by a big time UCF fan (Auggie) who got tired of increased YouTube restrictions on videos he wanted to share showcasing great moments in UCF history. In addition he also is producing a lot of original content with videos that will surely pump you up!

Memory Mall Tailgate Lines

As many of you who tailgate in Memory Mall are aware last year after the USF game in a knee-jerk reaction the UCF Administration began painting 10×10 white lines in the grass on Memory Mall to tell tailgaters where they can place their tents. The end result is something like this: [Read more →]

Video to get you pumped about football season

Decide to take a break from the tailgate fiasco, although I’m hardly done with that! But it’s getting exciting as the season is getting close…less than two weeks away now!

Check out this video out that was made my a fan who goes by Longshot3. It’ll get you pumped!

Get your “I Survived Memory Mall Shirts”

In case you missed it, we found out from Retired Admiral Al Harms during the Game Day meeting on Monday that fans have told him they were “scared” of the Memory Mall before they put down white lines down to restrict our tents and grills. I personally haven’t run into any of these so called “scared” fans, but hey they must exist right. So Auggie from ucfvideos.com has designed this great t-shirt for those that aren’t scared of Memory Mall and have somehow managed to survive it!

Check out the images below. The shirt is in Vegas Gold and the cost is $19.95 right now, but it will be less if he can get enough orders for bulk. He is not making a single penny on this, just wants to spread the message and poke some fun at this situation. I’ll be getting one myself. Please let a comment or contact me via the Contact button if you are interested in purchasing one yourself or have any questions.

OS article on tailgate meeting and my review

Iliana from the Orlando Sentinel was present for the community meeting to discuss UCF game day operations and wrote this article. Yours truly is quoted a few times in the article.

I think UCF has a uphill battle in front of them and has some serious work to do if they want to throw water on the fire. There may have only been 25 or so angry fans there, but a) this meeting wasn’t specifically for fans to discuss these changes it was for local residents b) this wasn’t really published or advertised. I think the views given in the meeting are representative of a large chunk of our fan base so I hope they are given some serious thought. Here’s my personal review of the meeting and what I think UCF should now do:

Voice your tailgate concerns at UCF on Aug 17th

UCF is holding a game day meeting for local residents to discuss updates to gameday policies, including the change in kickoff time. Sounds like a perfect opportunity to for those not happy with the changes to voice their displeasure! The meeting is on Monday Aug 17th from 6:30 – 8pm at room 117 of the teaching academy on the campus of UCF. You can park for free in Garage A. It sounds like there will be many from the UCF Rivals site to show their opposition and I should be there too so come join us!

Official Release from UCF

Also I would also encourage everyone to leave a comment on the recent Orlando Sentinel blog discussion this situation and whether UCF fans are still upset about the tailgating change.

UCF response to fan outcry?

UCF put up a notice and sent out emails that the two 6pm games in September have been moved to 7:30pm. Its worded to imply this was done as a response to the feedback fans have generated recently. However I personally find it hard to believe that to appease fans they moved the kickoff back 90 minutes, it would have made more sense to just allow tailgating to start 90 minutes early.

There is some talk that this game time change may have already been in the works for Bright House TV, I guess time will tell on that. Either way I think this is a weak compromise and doesn’t resolve many of the issues, mainly the problem of having thousands of fans streaming in at the same time at noon. Traffic, mad dashes for tailgate spots, and you still have to setup your tailgate during the hottest part of the day. I encourage everyone to continue contacting UCF if you are still not satisfied.!

UCF not listening, keep the email campaign up

As I’ve posted below, the Orlando Sentinel as written an article that shows UCF cares nothing about their customer’s concerns on this tailgate matter. Until a more formal protest / activity is planned, let’s proceed by keeping the letters flowing in so they understand that this issue is NOT going to go away. Here are some additional email addresses beyond my original post, I’d also advise you to contact your personal GKC rep and ticket rep, and if you feel there are consequences to their actions let them be known.

New Orlando Sentinel article on tailgate rules

Looks like UCF just doesn’t care about what the fans think on this issue, they are holding firm on their new tailgate policies. Looks like it may be time to organize some mass protests and more importantly it may be time to start talking with your wallet.

Here are a few exerts from the article:

Vice Admiral Al Harms, who is chairman of the game-day rules committee, said the group was concerned about fans tailgating and drinking alcohol for more than 10 hours on game days. “We felt it was excessive,” he said. “It wasn’t setting the appropriate atmosphere we wanted to have on campus.”

…executive associate athletics director David Chambers said he does not expect the university to back off its new policy. “It’s really an institutional decision and athletics supports it,” he said. ” … I know some people are unhappy, but we have to do what’s best for the overall institution.”

O’Leary to UCF Fans: “I’m on your side”

A UCF fan posted this clip on Saturday but I was a little hesitant to post it fearing O’Leary may not have known he was being taped. However now that the Orlando Sentinel has blogged about it, I figured may as well pop the video up here too.

My own personal opinion on this is I kind of expected this reaction from George based on his previous comments over the years about the great tailgate atmosphere and his past experience with bigger programs. Either way it’s absolutely fantastic to hear him actually say how he agrees with us, definitely a great alley to have in this battle to get our traditions back!
