Day 2 in Memphis!

I’m tired and have to get up early tomorrow so this is going to be super quick!

1) We went to Brother Junipers for breakfast and it was just awesome.

2) After we went next door to a Memphis Tiger bookstore and it was loaded with super cool merchandise. Stuff that I would die for UCF to have…they absolutely had EVERYTHING in Tiger Blue.

3) We then went to Sun Studios and did the tour and it was fabulous. The history in that place is remarkable, so good that I may actually go there again on Sunday now that the wife is here (she got in tonight)

4) The Liberty Bowl parade was out of this world, just in the sense that I’ve never seen that many UCF fans anywhere outside of being at a home football game. Then after that BB Kings was again insane and overflowing with UCF fans, in fact I would say that 100% of the people in there were UCF fans. Just amazing, you had to be there to feel it.

5) Watched the UCF game at Jillians on some big screens, and again the place was full of UCF fans. Fun way to watch the game, unfortunately we came up 3 points short. Felt bad for not being there for Kirk and the boys- but most admit having a great time.

6) Partied on Beale Street with family and friends for the rest of the night. Still think that UCF owned Beale although there were lots of MSU fans out there. Had a great time and props to my friend Gena who somehow managed to sit on the floor of the backseat of the rental so all 7 of us could drive home in the wife’s rental car. A site to be seen…

7) Going to bed now so that I can get up and organize a super large tailgate full of UCF fans! Can’t wait!!!

GO KNIGHTS!!!!

Report from Day 1 in Memphis

As I already said, our flight up on Airtran was loaded with fans. That was a good way to start the trip.

After checking in to our hotel (Gen X Inn) downtown and getting situated we made the drive down Union to the grocery store we are meeting at before the tailgate and then past the Liberty Bowl. We drove by the Univ of Memphis but didn’t really enter since it was already dark out.

We headed over to the team hotel and looked at the merchandise table they had setup there before meeting up with some friends to say hi. We then headed over to the famous Corky’s BBQ which was jam packed. Much of the jam was due to Knight fans as we had to be approaching a good 50% of the people in that place at one point earlier on, at least it felt like that.

The wait at Corky’s was long but we ended up sitting next to one of our coach’s and his family while waiting at the bar area. Had a nice conversation with them before finally getting called to our table. One of the guys in our group put Kevin Smith down as our name, so they called Kevin Smith Table for 7…got some cheers from that! We had heard a bad review from the clerk at our hotel, but we all really enjoyed our meals. Most of us got the pulled pork and loved it. The cole slaw was also great and the service was humorous and friendly. It was a fun experience, glad we went!

Ok, all for now…hopefully I’ll have another report tomorrow! It’s going to be a full day with tourist stuff in the morning followed by the parade, BB Kings Coaches Show, and the UCONN game. Can’t wait!!!

Some GREAT UCF coverage around the nation

Here are three things I must bring to your attention!

1) You HAVE TO READ the article on Kevin Smith in today’s USA Today! It was basically a full page story on page 3 of the sports, one of the best articles I’ve seen written on Kevin. You can find it right here.

2) ESPN has UCF and Kevin Smith on the front page of their college football page with an article about him chasing Barry Sanders. Click here to see the article.

3) CBSSportsline is doing a Cheerleader of the Year playoff and UCF has a cheerleader involved so click here to vote her through to the next round!

Coming to you live from Memphis!

I know it’s been awhile since the last post, the holidays are a bit nuts…but I’m back and I’m in Memphis!

My Airtran flight was LOADED with UCF fans and even some players families and staff. Once we landed someone even let out a GO UCF cheer which was pretty cool. It’s going to be a fun weekend up here with 10,000 other Knight fans! Here are two quick thoughts for those up in Memphis:

  • If you need more UCF gear, according to Brandon on UCFSports.com you can buy it at the team hotel, the Hilton. Here are some photos of what is for sale, looks like some good stuff!
  • Be safe and smart. Already have one friend who had their car smashed in today and their GPS and other items stolen.

GO KNIGHTS!!!

UCF getting it done off the field

Not only can you be proud of UCF football for what they has accomplished on the field, you can extend that pride to what they have accomplished in the classroom. The team returned their highest in-season GPA in the program’s history, coming in at 2.753! There were 44 players that earned a 3.0 or better. WELL DONE KNIGHTS!

For many I think you could assume that as a football team improves on the field you may start to see a decline in the classroom, but that just hasn’t happened here with George O’Leary and I’m very proud of that!

Renaming this site to KevinPride.com

Well just kidding, but boy it feels like it if you look at my posting history lately!

Here’s some more Kevin love that I had to point out, especially the Bianchi article:

Bianchi: Don’t Second Guess Smith’s Decision

UCF: Kevin’s now on 10 All-American Lists

Hightower: Full Press Conference Transcript

Oh, and I forgot this yesterday…

THANK YOU KEVIN!

You are a great ambassador for our university and I know all Knight fans will cherish being able to watch you for yet another year in the black & gold!

It’s official 24K decides to come back

This is the best Christmas present anyone could give to a UCF fan!

Here is an article on the subject, which includes a viceo. There’s Heisman talk and early Top 25 thoughts, he won’t be under the radar anymore!

Kevin Smith to make announcement about future

According to Kyle Hightower from the Orlando Sentinel we may be hearing about whether Kevin intends to return for his senior season at a UCF press conference on Tuesday!

Getting more and more indications that he will be returning to UCF, but you never know. Either way I’ll be happy for Kevin in whatever he decides, he’s more than earned my support already.

Smith to make announcement on future tomorrow

Kevin Smith t-shirts in time for Holidays

Talk about a great gift for a big UCF fan, here is a great pair of Kevin Smith t-shirts.

How about this Kevin Smith is My Homeboy shirt! Whoever came up with that is genius. You can get one on ucfshirts.com!

Also CB&S has a great Heisman, HE-IS-the-MAN t-shirt. It’s online, but I”m sure it’s in the store too.

I’ve added both of those shirts to my Christmas list on Kaboodle!

Looks like we’re going to see a lot of cowbell

Miss St fans are being encouraged to bring cowbells to the Liberty Bowl. I guess it’s a tradition for them and the Liberty Bowl is going to allow them even though they are artificial noise makers. Kinda sucks if you ask me, but actually all I can think of every time I hear about MSU and their cowbells is the Bruce Dickenson skit from SNL.

“I’ve got a fever and the only prescription is MORE COWBELL!”

Gotta be one of the best skits in SNL history
