Friday night UCF basketball defeats Norfolk St 78-64 in front of a school record 5,277 fans.

Saturday afternoon UCF football defeats SMU 49-20 clinching at least a share of the C-USA East Division. Kevin Smith runs for 177yds and 2 TDs, including another 80 yd TD run, and he doesn’t even play a single down in the second half! UCF can clinch sole ownership of the East Division crown with a victory over UTEP this weekend at Bright House!

We’ve had two great weekends in a row in terms of football & basketball and this weekend coming up could be the best yet! How’s this for a Thanksgiving-sized weekend of UCF sports in Orlando between football and the Old Spice Classic at Disney.

UCF comes off it’s big victory over Nevada to open the Arena and will play host to Norfolk State tonight at 7pm. I hope to see a great crowd on hand again. If you’ve never been to a UCF basketball game because you don’t like the game of basketball, I’d ask that you give it a try first. The atmosphere more than makes up for it and you’ll be hooked in no time!

According to a recent press release from The Collegiate Licensing Company UCF is the 51st best selling college in university athletic apparel. No doubt the change in logos and the new facilities helped out in sales. Either way the number is pretty impressive when you consider we are in the top 5 for all non-BCS schools.

Also worth nothing that we are 14 spots higher than our good friends at USF which came in at 65.

Mission Accomplished!

Great job by UCF Nation as Kevin Smith won the AT&T ESPN Player of the Week award joining the likes of previous winners such as Darren McFadden, Jamaal Charles, Andre Woodson, and Dennis Dixon. This vote was down via text messaging so there was no way to stack the vote.

Those three words are music to any UCF fan’s ears! They are from an article today in the Florida Today newspaper which did a nice story on Kevin Smith. Here’s the key excerpt from the article:

“I’ve already got my class schedule for next semester,” said Smith, who stuck around for a weightlifting session almost an hour after the Knights got off the practice field. “I don’t know if anybody knows that yet or not, but I’ll be back in school.

“Unless coach kicks me off the team, I’m going to be here and have my senior season,” Smith continued. “I still have a lot to work on in football. It’s great that I can run for some good numbers and that people are considering me for (the NFL), but that’s just something that will drive me even harder in the offseason.”

I’m so excited about this news (no you don’t get it, I’m REALLY excited) because we’d get to watch this kid play another year and this time with him nationally hyped from the start of the season, plus of course (and most importantly) it means great things could be in store for the team next year. At the same time I don’t take this as his 100% final word, I’ll have no problem if he changes his mind between now and the end of the year. There’s still a lot of football to be played. I’d fully support any decision he makes because this kid has earned it.

What a great representative for our school!

Life on top…sure is sweet

You know it sure feels good to be back on top! UCF got an early gift this year from Marshall when the Herd destroyed ECU 26 to 7. The ECU loss opened the doors up for UCF to move back into the number one seat in the C-USA East Division and inches that much closer to a championship game and a bowl game.

UCF is now selling tickets to the Old Spice Classic basketball tourney down at Disney’s Wide World of Sports. The dates are Nov 22nd, 23rd,
and 25th which is a Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. Yes the Thursday is
one and the same as Thanksgiving unfortunately and UCF is set to play
#23 Villanova at 7pm that day.

UCF students and season ticket holders are able to purchase tickets for a limited time for $30. This will give you a  session pass to all 3 games that UCF will play in. It’s a fantastic deal. I hope to see many UCF fans out there so we can make it a home court advantage, we’ll need it with this field of 8 teams.
