Pictures up from Louisiana-Lafayette tailgate

As mentioned in my post game report I forgot my camera which sucked, but luckily I put my old crappy digital camera in one of my tailgate bins so I had some backup. Because I hate that camera I didn’t take as many pics and didn’t even bring it into the game. Really sucks because I could have gotten some create Zombie Nation videos, luckily others picked up the slack (see below).

Here are the pics I took of the rain filled, but GREAT tailgate!

You ready to BOUNCE?!

If you go to a home UCF football game you better be ready to bounce every time UCF scores, because this is what happens!

Here’s a video from ThunderKnight (nice meeting you) of UCF Zombie Nation Bouce after we blocked a punt for a TD vs Louisiana Lafayette.

Time to turn it into 24K Gold

The ideas are churning at UCFSports.com on how we can help the Heisman hype for 24K. I threw out this shirt idea…

TIME TO TURN IT

INTO 24K GOLD

Or something like that. Anyone one have any other ideas?

UCF beats the Cajuns, Smith gets 223 yards

It was yet another wonderful day on the beautiful campus of UCF. The rain didn’t put any damper on the phenomenal tailgate we had this week. Setup shop at 10:30am and had a Cajun themed tailgate, from the menu to the music. We had shrimp, red beans & rice, gumbo, smoked sausage, and chicken creole. The food was AMAZING and having the Cajun music accompany it gave it that extra special touch. Oh and fyi, Rain + Boccie = Good Times, for the record.

As for the game it was another dominating 1st half performance followed by a less than stellar 2nd half. Can’t complain too much when the good guys win 37-19, we took care of business when we had to. The defense played a great game, and I can’t type any more without saying how Kevin Smith is the man. 223 yards on 33 carries and 3 touchdowns, it was his career high in yardage. You could hear a pin drop when he went down with his injury, sounds like he’ll be okay…let’s hope so.

Now for the crappy news…this game was the first game I’ve forgotten my camera in who knows how long. Luckily I had my old camera in one of my tailgate bins but it was so crappy that I hardly took many pics and most importantly I couldn’t take short videos of the Zombie Nation madness (you could feel the stadium shift!). The pictures I do have should be posted sometime on Sunday.

It’s on to ECU…eight of us are leaving Friday after work to make the drive up and support the Knights in person! It should be a GREAT game.

GO KNIGHTS beat the Pirates!

Orl Sent: Kevin Smith Worthy of Heisman Article

Great front page article in today’s Orlando Sentinel about Kevin Smith and the growing Heisman hopes surrounding him. It’s a great read and you get a feel for what type of team player and leader he is on and off the field. Great job by Kyle Hightower on the story, and great job by the Sentinel in covering UCF.

C-USA Basketball Preview from ESPN

I know we’re in the middle of football season, but I just saw this great preview of C-USA basketball from ESPN so I wanted to pass it along. We’re picked to finish 6th, which I think is a relatively fair assessment considering how much some of the other teams are expected to improve and the questions surrounding our front court. If we can get some scoring down low though I think we can finish higher…

Freshman Impact

I ran a poll over the last few weeks asking what defensive freshman has made the greatest impact. Well Lawrence Young won the poll going away, however he is hardly the only freshman making an impact. The list is long, which means the future is bright! Here are a couple other freshman that are making a difference this year!

DEFENSE
LB Lawerence Young: 2 starts, 17 tackles (1 TFL), 1 INT
LB Derrick Hallman: 3 starts, 8 tackles (2 TFL), 1 sack
DB Darin Baldwin: 11 tackles (1 TFL), 3 Breakups
DE Bruce Miller: 3 starts, 10 tackles (2 TFL), 1 sack

OFFENSE
WR Kamar Aiken: 3 starts, 9 catches, 2 TDs
WR A.J. Guyton: 8 catches, 56 yards

SPECIAL TEAMS
P Blake Clingan: 45.5 Avg, 6 50+, 4 In20

The last one is someone we definitely shouldn’t overlook! Our true freshman punter is right now ranked #1 in C-USA and 10th nationally for punt average! And to already have 4 punts within the 20 and 6 punts go over 50 yards is amazing! This will really be a huge weapon in games that will be won on field position.

Great job by all our Knight freshman!

Kevin Smith 4 Heisman!

Tony Jones wrote a GREAT piece in the Sunday Daytona News Journal paper. Here is a great excerpt from the article…

Well coach, here I am co-signing the candidacy of your best player. Here I am saying Smith has all the ingredients you want out of a top back. The breakaway speed. The elusiveness. The vision and the ability to break tackles. Even the humility and the brains to deflect the adulation to his offensive line.

They’re the running backs, I just hold the ball for them,” Smith quipped. “I can’t do anything without my offensive line, so they should get as much credit as me.”

UCF now receiving Top 25 Votes

Not in any old polls like Bob Smith’s Top 25, but THE polls. UCF received 4 votes in the AP Top 25 poll and 5 votes in the USA Today / Coaches Poll. Nothing to go crazy and start setting sofas on fire, but it’s a good start and should show the team that if we just keep on winning then great things can happen for the team this season.

All the more reason for a sellout on Saturday Knight for the only “kNight” game all year.
